About

I am Marie-Laure (pronounced "meh REE lor"), an aspiring artisan cheesemaker and goat farmer.  Like many people, I went to schools, graduated with degrees, dreamt of being an astronaut and making the world a better place with grand, sweeping action.  But when employers stopped hiring, I was left without a framework, wondering how I could be most useful.  That's when I met a goat.

That goat stared into my soul and I realized that the most important thing I could do was not to wait for an opportunity, but to go on and create the world I wanted to see in the future.  So, having fallen in love with Anne Petersen's herd of Nigerian Dwarves at Rosasharn Farm, I decided in early 2010 that I would pursue a career in cheesemaking and goat farming.  I picked up and went to France in June of that year to train with goat herdsmen, cheesemakers and cheese agers (affineurs); a year and a half journey through parts of France, Spain and Italy.

I returned to the U.S. in the closing days of 2011 to begin the second chapter of my project: start the business.  So far, 2012 has seen me visit farm properties for sale, meet cheesemongers, meet other cheesemakers and dairy farmers.  I have focused my research on Massachusetts, my first choice of location, and when I'm not figuring out the logistics of starting a farm business, I can be found making cheese in the kitchen.
