For my training with Hervé Mons, I was awarded the 2010 Seattle Cheese Festival Scholarship. The award is presented "every year to an individual seeking an education in cheesemaking or looking to enhance one’s cheesemaking skills."
The Seattle Cheese Festival is a non-profit originally conceived by DeLaurenti Specialty Food & Wine and "presents more than 250 cheeses from local and international producers along the cobblestone street of Pike Place Market. The festival is the first of its kind on the West Coast with artisanal cheese at center stage."
Thanks to the scholarship and the contacts I made while at Mons, I was able to work with several different cheesemakers and goat herdsmen in three European countries.
