Here are a few fine cheese shops I would recommend checking out.  The selections are large and the cheesemongers know their product.  Just as you might feel a fruit to determine whether it is ripe, be sure to ask your cheesemonger which cheeses on hand are at their peak.  Your best purchase will be the cheese the monger knows is perfectly ripe now.  Next week, the best cheese may be another cheese altogether.  A good cheesemonger will also have you sample before you buy so don't be shy about asking for a taste.

Here are a number of farms at which I've worked or simply stopped by. Most encourage visitors but be sure to call ahead to find the best time; farmers are busy people and if you come at a good time, you'll have better luck talking and learning about your food growers.
